		<description>Inspired Writings &#38; Blog

Inception and Snow / 03.08.13

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/145050/1974691/photo 1_640.JPG" width="640" height="640" width_o="1280" height_o="1280" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/145050/1974691/photo 1_o.JPG" data-mid="27729650"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Some recent photos from my @adamcwendel instragram account from the snow fall NYC just endured today. I certainly hope this is the last snowfall of the season, nonetheless it is still quite breathtaking in black and white.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/145050/1974691/photo 1 copy_640.JPG" width="640" height="640" width_o="1280" height_o="1280" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/145050/1974691/photo 1 copy_o.JPG" data-mid="27729659"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

(Above) Me leaning over the Fahrenheit 212 roof - looking out onto Bond St. and Broadway. Luckily I didn't blow away with those strong gusts. I like these two photos because they are taken at the same time - one from my perspective and another from my dear friend and colleague Carlo's. Just another case of insta-ception.

Track Re-Brand / 3.06.13

Take a look at a side re-branding project I just recently completed for my track friends over at Union Catholic High School.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/145050/1974691/UC_NEW_LOOK.jpg" width="600" height="304" width_o="600" height_o="304" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/145050/1974691/UC_NEW_LOOK_o.jpg" data-mid="27723047"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

As an overall mark, UC is highly evocative of the traditional 6 lane track, with its parallel and delicate lines - the rounded treatment also enables a beautiful symmetry that simply uses one letter just rotated 90 degrees.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/145050/1974691/allen_01.png" width="600" height="304" width_o="600" height_o="304" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/145050/1974691/allen_01_o.png" data-mid="27723024"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Photography styles im combination with the new graphic language.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/145050/1974691/morgan_01.png" width="600" height="304" width_o="600" height_o="304" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/145050/1974691/morgan_01_o.png" data-mid="27723037"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

The design can be brought to life on various applications extending from business cards, uniforms, and social media. UC is dynamic, connected, and precise that truly exemplifies the track and field program of Union Catholic.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/145050/1974691/Screen Shot 2013-03-11 at 7.55.17 PM.png" width="600" height="404" width_o="600" height_o="404" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/145050/1974691/Screen Shot 2013-03-11 at 7.55.17 PM_o.png" data-mid="27723010"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

New simplified color combinations evoke a modern take on the brand with added dynamism.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/145050/1974691/Screen Shot 2013-03-11 at 7.54.38 PM.png" width="600" height="360" width_o="600" height_o="360" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/145050/1974691/Screen Shot 2013-03-11 at 7.54.38 PM_o.png" data-mid="27722995"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

This was a particularly enjoyable endeavor to work on because I was able to reflect on a particularly impactful and meaningful previous life. I’ve always been a designer and creative at heart but prior entering the professional design space I competed as a high jumper, believe it or not. In addition to my high jumping and athletic days I used to coach the jumping events over at Union Catholic – which is why I began to work on this project in the first place.

To this day I am very attached to the sport and am an avid follower. I find that track and field is the purest of sports (who can get to the line the fasted or jump the furthest/highest). It is one of the few sports that solely depend on the individual. I attribute many of my personal and professional methodologies to the learning’s during my athletic years.

Voice Over / 2.26.13

VOICE OVER is a beautiful and highly visual 10-minute short that I discovered recently. Without giving away the story, I am amazed by the merit of storytelling that connects the three epic characters before the conclusion and heart-warming reveal. In each of the 1 minute 33 second countdowns there is a delightful and playful suspense that builds up, as each character’s fate unfolds. This is a story of faith, vulnerability, and determination.

 VOICE OVER (English subtitles) from Kamel Films on Vimeo.
After watching I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did. The first time I watched - I thought of Amelie by Jean-Pierre Jeunet because of its lighthearted anticipation.

Snowing Down / 2.11.13

Routinely Manhattan receives one large snowfall like this once a year that coats the city for several days. Unfortunately this particular storm was the kind that swiftly turns to slush in just a few hours. It was the kind that fallaciously creates sheets of ice by sidewalks that in reality are 15-inch deep slush puddles. Yet as New Yorkers we know how quickly the snow turns to this grey slush. In the hours leading to the slush there is a remarkable transformation that the city endures.

It forces everyone to slow down, unwind, and take the time to look around. Manhattan is a hyper fast paced place and if you walk slow or stop to look around you either get shouted at or pushed off to the side. There are few places in the city to escape this kind of chaos. The best bet is venturing to a park or going to the 50th floor where you hover amid the clouds. Snow is another solution to these mind-slowing experiences.

During the snowfall we hunkered down, played Jenga, watched a season of Homeland on Netflix and fled inside to escape the snow and intense wind blowing through the city. The following morning we awoke to one the most magical sights – the city covered in 12 inches of snow. Manhattan in those first few hours after a snowstorm is truly a breathtakingly beautiful place. Myself and other New Yorkers slowed down and took the time to appreciate the beautiful contrasts of concrete and powder. Here are the pics of our morning adventures through the Manhattan Winter Wonderland taken from my instagram @adamcwendel.

		<description>I am versatile designer and creative strategist. I am currently a Consultant at Doblin &#124; Monitor Deloitte. My experience lies at the intersection innovation strategy and concept development where multifaceted strategies are brought to life into tangible concept solutions. I lead the design process of discovering and translating insights into product, service and business ideas. I am interested in uncovering the innate motivations and principles driving user behavior. My scope of work has primarily focused on product and service solutions within CPG, consumer electronics, consumer goods and retail.

I have a background in industrial design and with an insatiable curiosity for innovation and strategy I made the transition from pure product design to innovation strategy and the interdisciplinary approach where I am now at Doblin. I consider myself a champion for design and leverage design and design thinking as a tool for solving for a greater array of problems and innovation challenges.

Prior to joining Doblin, I worked with top product design consultancies in the New York City area and most recently for the innovation consultancy Fahrenheit 212 where I was the lead industrial designer.

I am a strong advocate for community growth, demonstrated through my leadership of the Board of Directors within The Industrial Designers Society of America’s New York Chapter serving as President. During my term I managed to amplify and grow the local chapter’s offerings into a multi-faceted set of community inspired events. I had the wonderful opportunity to meet plenty of brilliant, talented, and inspiring people along the way.

Prior to immersing myself the design industry I was a competitive high jumper. The intense training during my athletic years has had a profoundly positive influence in my design methodology and work ethic today. Several injuries and surgies later I re-discovered a childhood artistic talent and later went on to receive my Bachelor of Industrial Design, graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors where my career was ultimately jump started.

I'm currently in a very happy relationship with my girlfriend Leah. We're living in the Upper East Side of Manhattan with our dog Ayden, a long haired-Chihuahua that we adopted in August 2011. I love the bold contrasts in the city and long peaceful walks through Central Park - exploring as much as New York has to offer.

I'm fairly active on Twitter under the handle @adamwendel. You can also see my photography on instagram @adamcwendel.
